Take your outfit from Runway, to ready to wear!
Jul 17th
1. Let the design inspire. If the classic clean lines of Ralph Lauren’s fall line instantly appeal to you, try and replicate that in your own wardrobe. Keep it simple in color and design aesthetic. Use some of the more affordable Ralph Lauren pieces to complement your existing wardrobe. If Betsey Johnson’s wide skirts and ruffles inspire, try and find the same silhouette in less expensive pieces. Try a ruffled top with pants or a simple A-line skirt. Take the overall design aesthetic of the pieces you admire and translate their shape into your wardrobe. You can leave the fashion forward hats and accessories to the runway, and still retain the overall shape of the design.
2. Pick one fantastic element of your favorite runway piece and duplicate it. Whether you take a fabulous belt or sparkly purse from your favorite designer’s runway show, a signature piece will take your every day look to something spectacular. One key element won’t necessarily overwhelm your entire look.
3. Some designers work within distinctive color and texture palettes. If you like Marni’s textural designs, try and duplicate that at a more affordable price. Many sportswear designers take from the designer’s inspirations and work with the same colors and patterns. When watching the runways or turning the pages of Vogue, take note of exactly what attracts you to a certain outfit, and replicate that in your every day wardrobe.
4. Select what works for you. If the high platforms of a nod to 60s mod fashion kills your calves, or some accessories just instantly scream costume jewelry to you, go with your instincts and leave it! Don’t feel pressured to wear something like the runway designs just for the sake of it being a runway design. Ultimately, you want to flatter your figure, preserve your personal style, and not get lost in a sea of scarves, ponchos, and funky studded footwear that you’ll never wear again.
5. Couture means a one of a kind piece. The amount of work that goes into the singular pieces on the runways is incredible, and those designs deserve to be center stage. They are the show stopping numbers- the larger than life show opener or closer. You can translate whimsy into your personal wardrobe by adding some pieces that are daring, and creative- but some of the intricate pieces are best left to the runway, to showcase the artistry and expertise of the craftsman.

Trends for the 2009 Summer Season
May 19th

Summer is that time of the year when you throw off your jackets and full sleeves to the back of your wardrobe and bring out the sexy, cool and soothing clothes to show off your perfectly tanned skin. Trends this summer are at their fashionable best and are the exact thing that your feminine side has been craving. Summer apparel for 2009 is, if very clearly put, every girl’s dream. Flirty yet shy, soft and feminine, basically subtly sexy is the look every girl must eye for. Summer Trends for 2009 are made up of all the right things. From one shouldered dresses to sheer tops, from butterfly motifs to jewel encrusted fabrics, summer apparels are all about having fun this year. But when it comes to the evening look, history will repeat itself. That is romantic detailing with a touch of the historical era will be what summer nights would be made of.
Sheer Fabrics:
Made popular by all the stylish celebrities on the red carpet like Drew Barrymore, Leighton Meester, Kate Bosworth and Lily Allen, sheer fabrics are making a comeback from the 90’s. But this time they are more stylish, with plenty of layers, draping and embellishments to die for. Sheer fabrics do a great job of adding elegance to your look if paired with the right kind of accessories and make up. They can be worn at luncheons, the softer shades are perfect for brunches while black, burgundy and chocolate will rule the night. However if you are not too comfortable with a complete sheer top or dress, go for sheer necklines and sleeves that only accentuate beautifully tanned skin.
Fringed Clothing:
Summer fashion trends this year have become more adventurous, with the entry of the fringed pieces at the hangars of Barneys and the likes. A look every fashionable girl should be flirting with, fringes spell out youth, fun, and a desire to stand out. It can be subtle with just the hems of the skirts fringed or one can go all the way with a fully fringed dress and be the centre of attention at all the social dos. This look has been made popular at the red carpet by Lindsay Lohan, Rachel Bilson and Miranda Kerr.
One Shoulder:
Time for some asymmetrical fun this summer. A look that is made for turning heads, one shouldered dresses and tops are exactly what one must be adding to their summer 2009 wardrobe. Apt for any occasion, casual or formal, this look has a knack for abolishing the wearer. One shouldered tops look great with shorts and skirts and are ideal to wear on a day out on the boat or for a walk at the beach, while one shouldered dresses with a pair of scintillating earrings are just perfect for a stunning evening. It is one of the best Summer Apparel 2009 I would want to choose.
Ruffles:
Huge on the runways, ruffles are slowly making their entry into everyday wear in a more toned down form, like sleeves and skirts. Keeping in mind the feminine look this summer, ruffles are a great way to make a girly Cinderella-like statement. It works with shirts, tops and evening dresses. Designers who have really experimented with ruffles are Chanel and Valentino which only explains that it is hot in the fashion scene right now.
With so many trends, and summer being full of opportunities to flaunt them, summer apparel sale seems to have gone a level higher this year, as women are getting more and more fashion conscious with TV shows like Gossip Girl, America’s Next Top Model and Project Runway showing that every woman has the right to look stunning and summer is just the right time to do it.
A Brush with History:
Trends for Summer Apparels in 2009 are almost like the renewal era of fashion, as more and more designers are trying to bring back the fashion trends of bygone eras. Roman and Greek trends have as though just been lifted from the beautifully crafted bodies of the goddesses and princesses and have arrived into 2009 to change the way we will look at fashion. Grecian dresses and romantic gowns have made a stunning entry into modern fashion for evening wear and the styles look like they are here to stay for a very long time. Flowy, delicate and ethereal, they can be paired with the fresh into fashion gladiator sandals that everyone is dying for. This look has been worn a lot by Mischa Barton and Rihanna and there is a reason why it was the attire of the sexy Greek Godesses.

So, those a few choices as to where to shop for cheap summer dresses. Make sure to keep your eyes peeled for some great deals. A summer sun dress that you thought was out of your price range could just fall right into your price range with the right sale. Another word of advice; wait! Don’t just rush to a store or the mall and buy the first batch of summer sun dresses you see. Wait for the sales; get cheap summer dresses instead of paying full price. Getting a great bargain on some summer sun dresses is sure to put a smile on any women’s face.
Now we will move on to where we can find some summer dresses online. A lot of the same stores you see in the mall or shopping plaza also have websites. A lot of times you can get a better deal if you shop on their website vs. shopping in their actual store. Sometimes the different online sites also offer free shipping or another enticing promo to get customers to shop online. Lets check out what bargains we can find for some summer dresses online.
Right now at www.ae.com you can get comfortable tank dresses starting at $24.50. The AE cross back dress starting at $34.50 and the AE boardwalk dress for $44.50. Other summer dresses online at AE are the ring dress, ruffle dress, flirty eyelet dress and many other summer sun dresses can be found on this website as well. No dress is priced over $49.50. I think it is safe to say that www.ae.com offers a large selection of cheap summer dresses.
For our next online merchant I’ve gone with Nordstrom. The good thing about this online store; www.nordstrom.com is women can shop by several different categories: body type, designer and style as well as occasion. You’ll be blown away at the selection of cheap summer dresses you can find on www.getheavenly.com. Nothing is priced over $17.95. Free shipping is available on orders over $75 and they offer a 365 day exchange program. No doubt, like I said about Oldnavy being the place to shop for cheap summer dresses, I think www.getheavely.com floors the competition as to where us ladies should be shopping for summer dresses online. At www.edressme.com the whole site is pretty much dedicated to finding you the perfect dress. They have some great summer dresses online, but some might be out of the price range. Women’s Apparel – The Perfect Fit
Feb 11th
Fashion is one thing that some love and others hate, yet we cannot live without it. And for women it’s a very important topic. That’s why when it comes to women’s apparel, the key is being able to find affordable and mixable items that will work for everyday and seasons without making you sick of them. Nobody wants to look in their closet and think, “I have nothing to wear yet again” even when our closets are full. That really brings us down, and we don’t want that. So I will list some key and important items to make every woman’s closet is a place where she won’t think that exact silly thought anymore about her clothing. Black Pants/Work Pants/Skirts-They can be dressed up and dressed down. They may be one of the only few items that can be taken straight from work to a party with the right accessories and top. They flatter every shape and size, so make sure you have more than one pair. Little Black Dress-This is one item that will never go out of season. Again like the black pants, it can be dressed down and up. Just make sure its not too short or low cut. Pair with a blazer, it would be a pretty work dress. For night you can remove the blazer and pair it with a wrap and you have a great dress for that perfect date or night out. And I am pretty sure you have heard that the LBD is huge part of a woman’s clothing. Jeans-They’re perfect for everyday wear and they are so comfy. They look great for most all types of events. Having more than one pair is key and you should make sure they’re not the same wash. Darker for wild nights out and lighter for your day in. Colorful Tops/Blouses-They can make or break your outfit. Bright colors can cheer you up and look great for again almost all types of events. You should have more tops than bottoms, so you can keep your outfits looking fresh and fabulous. As you can tell by the list above that it doesn’t take a whole lot to have a wonderful closet that will always have something fabulous to wear. Women’s clothing can be a whole lot of fun to buy and work with. to make yourself look great. All it takes is a few items and a vivid imagination to come up with a new outfit. You don’t have to be rich in order to have endless possibilities of ways to dress. You can get all of these aforementioned items and not get into debt for buying. So don’t fret about not having 1000s items of womens apparel, just focus on what you have and imagine just how great you look.

Cheap Blue Cult Jeans for Women
Feb 11th
Comfort is key, and so is looking good. So what can bring all that? Jeans, of course!
There are so many different styles, and they can be worn with almost anything and not clash with it. They are the perfect staple for anyone’s closet and a must have for everybody. And no two pairs of jeans ever look the same. You can have tight fit jeans, low jeans, high waist jeans, baggy jeans, boot cut, flare and so many more types- it’s really endless.
You can buy cheap jeans or you can buy designer jeans. You can have amazing body modifying jeans, like Blue Cult Jeans offers a pair that does that, or you can have regular great looking jeans that are just the right price. It doesn’t really matter, just as long as they make you feel and look great. And you need to remember the different types of cuts and washes that are out there, so you can make a informed decision about which looks best.
Cuts-
Boot cut: Slightly flared, slim fit through hip and knee. They usually sit low on your hip
Flared-They’re a lot like boot cut, but they are much more flared like bell bottoms than the boot cut.
Slim/Skinny-The are tapered and fit snug on the whole leg.
Straight Leg-Unlike skinny, they are a bit looser fitted in the leg. Not baggy nor skinny.
Cuffed/Cropped-More summer, again like straight leg they are not too lose or too skinny on the leg. A summery look and feel.
Sand Blasted-Faded in color slightly and the fabric is bit worn looking
Whisker Wash-Bleached on the upper thigh below the pockets. Normally only seen on darker washes.
Tinted-Sand blasted, then added yellow or beige for a more vintage look and feel.
Dark-Very deep blues. Almost black looking. Great for fancy events that feel more comfortable type of jeans.
Those are your options for jeans. I hope this info gives you insight on a staple for every woman’s closet, so you as the consumer can make sure you know how to read the tags on these types so you can be sure that you buy only what you want.
Remember, power to the consumer!

Selecting the right colors for your skin tone
Jun 13th
Opposites attract. Any student of psychology will tell you this, and anyone interested in color theory will agree. It’s important to dress in tones that will complement your skin, in order to give you the very best look in any season. We’ve broken down some of the colors that will look great on a variety of tones.
Pale complexion, with light hair – If you’re in this group, then colors with low saturation will wash you right out. Look for strong color, but in light tones. In other words, a navy blue might look drab, but an electric light blue shirt will be sizzling. Avoid green shades if you worry about skin redness.
Pale complexion, with dark hair – You’re all about contrast, so let your clothing work with you, rather than against you. Stick to darker gem tones, like burgundies and deep emerald dresses. Light colors may wash you out. Your face will really be memorable, and your clothes will help your hair frame your face, where all the personality is.
Medium brown to tan complexion – If you have darker skin, lighter colors and neutrals will keep you looking fresh. You’re perfect for earthy tones and there is no particular color you ought to avoid. Bright blues may cause you to look a bit sallow though, so keep your cool tones in lower saturation.
Olive complexion – If you are olive skinned, then watch out for purple. Purple is the natural complement to yellow, so it can make you look a bit sickly. Orange tones and deep blues will really bring your skin to life and give you a vibrant, healthy glow.
Dark complexion – You are lucky. It’s very hard for any color to look bad on you. You can wear almost anything with ease, but neutrals can be a bit drab on you. Brilliant whites, saturated yellows, and shimmery fabrics will look stunning on you. Avoid dark colors.

Reliving Fashion (Or living it for the first time)
Jun 6th
Everyone knows that fashion is a huge circle that goes around ad nauseum. Trends come in and out constantly, but some evolve to become something truly inspiring. Let’s take a look at some of the old fads in women’s clothing that have found their place in the spotlight once again.
Leggings – Legging had their big heyday in the 80’s and early 90’s. While they never fully went away, they’ve had a huge resurgence in recent years. Unlike their predecessors though, they can now be found in patterns, or with lace trim.
Bright Colors – beloved by the children of the 80’s, colors so saturated they practically glow are making their presence known once again. This time, the trend has evolved into something a bit more tasteful, by mixing small selections of these colors with monochrome background prints.
The Trapeze neck – This style comes to us from the 70’s, and has seen little change since then. Often worn over leggings or jeans, these tunic shaped tops provide a large canvas for color, and a remarkably ability to mask body imperfections.
The Mod dress – a beloved icon of the 1960’s, this often a-line shaped dress has become a huge hit in stores this year. The Mod dress is generally seen with a geometric print, in a limited color palette. Short, sweet, and simple.

Shop Like a Pro!
May 29th
Do you have a friend that always manages to find the one great item in the thrift store? The one who always beats you to that awesome top, or sees outfits in a pile of clothes you thought were hopeless? Well, there’s no magic to it. Anyone can shop like that, and come home happy every time they leave the store. There are so many affordable women’s clothes to choose from.
Think of all the reasons you might not want it. Have you considered how it will look against your skin? The texture? It won’t do you any good to buy it if it washes you out, or scratches you so badly you never want to wear it. Will you have to iron it? Dry Clean it? This is how we end up with a closet full of clothes, and nothing to wear.
Don’t buy it unless you have ten great things to wear with it. What good is a piece that you can only wear with one pair of shoes, or that you have to buy a special belt for? It helps to keep your closet all in one color palette at first, and then gradually start expanding it as you build up basic coordinates.
Don’t be afraid of color. A lot of this article is about playing it safe, but who wants to be safe all the time? You CAN go all out in vivid color without losing your fashion sense. All it takes is balance. Always pair a bright saturated color with a neutral, like white, beige, black, olive, or navy. The same goes for a crazy new cut or shape. Pair it with classic clothing, and you’re good to go. Avoid mixing an interestingly cut top with a funky skirt, or the pieces will compete for attention.
Ignore the trends. I know it’s hard, since they’re everywhere, but try. Only buy a trendy item if it looks AMAZING on your body. Only buy anything if it looks amazing on your body. Don’t even pull out your checkbook unless you are 100% sure you love the way it falls on you.
Shop online. Most online stores photograph their clothing on a mannequin, rather than on a hanger. You get to see everything hanging on an actual human body, and you’ll know what to expect. For the record, most mannequins are a size six, and about five feet, six inches tall. If you are shorter than this, or larger, take that into account. Most online stores offer a generous return policy, because they know how important fit is.
