Major drivers are the increasing number of larger consumers across all age ranges, mainstream retailers adding plus collections, the better translation of trends to larger sizes and the successful targeting of niche markets,” according to Business Resource Editor, Angela Rumsey.

What Do You Mean Those are Knickerbockers?

Sometimes I just love talking to my grams. She has colorful language that I always leaves me scratching my head and with a smile on my face. Being raised in Texas, sometimes she is difficult to understand because she has such a thick southern accent, but that is half the fun!
We were discussing a picture she sent me, and she was commenting on how she wasn’t found of how those “knickerbockers” fit. Now, I looked at the picture one way and the other, and went “those are knickerbockers?”
Well, there are a few various styles of pants these days. Usually, there is just a slight variation in the design. Here is what I have learned since then – and with some research – on some of the various types of “pants” popular today.
Carpenter Pants – Carpenter pants are trousers of full length with extra pockets along the side so, traditionally, carpenters could carry a few extra tools in those pockets.
Dungarees – Dungaree is more a material that a style, but some people call dungarees overalls. Dungaree has a lot of twill in it and is about as hearty as denim.
Breeches – Breeches are trousers or pants that end above the knee, but do not qualify as shorts. I think some breeches are bunched and banded above the knee.
Capri Pants – Capri pants are about three quarters of the length of regular trousers ending mid calf.
Knickerbockers – Knickerbockers are knee-length, and are gathered and banded slightly below the knee. Traditionally worn by men, these were one of the first pants worn by women long ago.
This has definitely been an eye opener for me. I never knew “those” were knickerbockers… but now I do. And yes, my grams looked adorable in her youth in her favorite knickerbockers.

Baggy Pants: What’s Your Opinion?

Recently I was at the store – had to pick up some of that cranberry sauce in a can I always forget about until the last moment – and I noticed a group of people ranging in age from about 18 to 38 all wearing baggy pants. Hmm, what do I mean by baggy?
Well, the majority of the people in the group wore baggy pants that looked like if they were not holding them up the baggy pants would simply fall down in public. Yes, I do mean baggy pants!
This got me to think… what do I consider baggy pants?
Once upon a time, I can remember lying on the bed with a hanger trying to melt into a pair of blue jeans that were about 4 sizes too small. Finally, with the help of a friend, I got them on… then came the task of actually standing up. Ah, the good old days of being a teenager!
Today, I see more people wearing baggy pants rather than tight pants. Perhaps I am just old fashioned; perhaps I am just too out of date. Who knows.
Now I like my pants loose, but not “that” baggy. If the pants would fall over my hips if I raised my hands above my head then that is way too baggy.
I am sure y’all have your own opinions on what is baggy and what is too baggy. What is your line between baggy and too baggy?

With Thanksgiving just a couple of days away I know I am hustling and bustling to find the perfect pair of plus size pants for that fabulous sweater I purchased just for turkey day. I know I want a solid color because the plus size sweater is a playful design of turkeys and other autumn colors.
Now finding that perfect pair of plus size pants is my goal, and I have a world of options available to me. So where do I head?
